Music BIOS: Why, who, and what these songs are about.
The band’s music is a blend of smooth melodic old soul Rock, flavored with a taste of Country. Combine that with tasty 4-part harmonies and Holy-spirit inspired songwriting and you have the band Appointed Life.
I Feel Good: When we first started attending Living Hope Church our Pasture Rev. G.O. Wade would often play his acoustic guitar and sing one line of a song, and we would all sing that one line with him several times. I really liked that line and thought it deserved a complete song. I asked G.O if I could write a whole song around that one line and he said he loved the idea. A few days later I went to sleep with that line playing in my head, and when I woke up God had given me a complete song. G.O. loved it and we would often sing the song during church with the whole congregation singing along. This song is our Tithe song, the song and video are totally free. We encourage the churches to download our lyric video and sing it with your congregation. Singing for JESUS is fun!
Paradise: I wrote this song for my Step-Father Ken Rankins. Ken came to Christ very late in life, but it released a fire within that overflowed to all aspects of his day-to-day life. He became a witness for Christ and would often stand at the front door of the church and greet everyone with Welcome to Paradise my friends!
Can’t Stop: I wrote this song for my sister Marcy; I was always very close to my sister and when she was diagnosed with cancer, I decided to write her a song that would let her know that she would always have somebody to count on. Someone who would always be there for her no matter what. Can’t Stop would be a reminder that her family that would never stop believing in her, loving her, and praying for her. Marcy was originaly given 3 to 5 years to live, but God in his mercy gave her another 15 years. She absolutely loved the song, and she got to hear it recorded along with the video. When she passed peacfully in her sleep she had her CD sitting beside her on the nightstand.
The Witness: Serves as a reminder that All of Christ followers should witness and let their light shine unto the world. We can’t save anyone, only God can, but we should be like farmers and plant seeds. Not all seeds take root, but occasionally some will fall on fertile ground.
Flying: When I stopped playing music for myself and started playing for Christ I would often wake up with songs and lyrics going through my head. This was one of those songs. One fine morning after waking up from a good dream I grabbed a pencil and paper and Flying was born.
Connie’s Angel: After her best friend's tragic death in an auto accident Anne wrote this song and sang it acapella at Connie’s funeral. I tried several times unsuccessfully to write music for the song. Several years later when I started playing for the church, I was practicing in my music room and God gifted me with a new song. After not receiving any lyrics, I bowed my head and asked God for some words for the song. Upon finishing my prayer, I looked up and noticed a sheet of paper on my music stand. Anne had put the lyrics on my stand the night before and was going to ask me to give the music another try, when I realized it was Connie’s Angel my eyes widened, I looked up and said “Really! No way!”. It was truly a miracle, I didn’t have to change any of the words, it was as though the music was written specifically for those lyrics. Connie’s Angel was finally finished.
Fade Away: Don’t let it Fade Away was written in loving memory of John Womble. John was a fantastic drummer, before joining us he played with Johnny Blain and the Spur Band. We played many shows with John and have many fond memories. We would get together on the weekends, cook lots of food and watch the Dallas Cowboys play football. John will be sorely missed and his memory will never Fade Away.
Dance: My beautiful wife Anne said that she felt I should include “I want to dance like King David, on the streets of gold” into one of the songs I was currently writing. I already had a chorus that said “I want to dance for you”. It fit perfectly into a verse and we decided to call the song Dance.
In The Morning: I wrote this song for my wife to tell her how much I love her. I wrote the chorus with the idea that in her most intimate and personal moments she could be sure that I would always be there for her. We collaborated on the verses and lyrics and decided that we would each sing a verse and the last verse we would sing together.
